TOMORROW'S ARCHITECT
The following is a think piece to explore how the role of the Architect may change in the future. The essay consists of a conceptual framework followed by a set of mini projects that I have undertaken. These projects are an experimental way to explore the role of ‘tomorrows Architect’.
For many years we have been blinded by the idea that economic growth is always good and that an increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is a way to measure the success of a country. However, in recent years our pursuit of economic growth has started to show repercussions such as: global warming, social inequality, vast migration and more. Around the world campaigners, cities, and governments are declaring a climate emergency. While all this is happening, our strive towards economic growth is leading us to further social inequality and an unsustainable future. In this key moment, the question we must ask ourselves is: How can architecture respond to climate change and social inequality?
