OXFORD ROAD MASTERPLAN
This project began with a theoretical study of Heatwaves in Melbourne. This was later applied to create a masterplan for the Oxford Road corridor to tackle the negative effects of Heatwaves.
Our proposal is a strategic masterplan, we have identified the best locations around our site for an intervention. A sunlight
analysis has been undertaken to calculate the amount of shade coverage on Oxford Road. This was done by 3D modelling
the buildings around our site and using geographical information from our site to mimic the sun path. The shade is calculated
in hourly increments between the hottest times of the day: 11:00 to 15:00. The analysis covers the three statistically hottest
months in the summer and records the data from the 1st day of June, July and till the end of August. This data is overlaid to
highlight areas that receive no shade throughout the summer months. These are identified as the locations that are most
suited to shading interventions. The locations for the other blue infrastructure are based on existing green spaces and key buildings around the university area (illustrated on poster).
